About Us

Internships

OAR welcomes interest from high school, undergraduate, and graduate students who are seeking to:

  • Increase their knowledge and experience of autism and autism research,
  • Gain work experience in a nonprofit organization,
  • Apply academic experience in a real world setting, or
  • Simply help a good cause.

Purpose

The purpose of the internship program is to provide talented young persons the opportunity to gain work experience in a nonprofit organization and learn about autism and autism research in the process.

Applications are accepted year round and internships are located in OAR's office in Arlington, VA.

Internship Roles at OAR

Because OAR has a small staff and a variety of interesting programs and activities, interns may fulfill an assortment of important roles such as:

  • Research—Help administer and support annual research competition
  • Information—Help manage OAR’s Life Journey through Autism series and monthly e-newsletter
  • Communications—Help prepare press releases and promotional materials and maintain this Web site
  • Special projects—Concentrated work on a specific program such as the Biennial Research Convocation or a new Life Journey through Autism guide
  • RUN FOR AUTISM—Learn about fundraising in OAR’s signature event
  • Annual conference—Help prepare conference materials, register attendees, and provide general support during the conference.

We will consider independent internships/special projects by interested students on a case by case basis.
